The 2009 Asia in the Curriculum symposium will begin with registration at the St. Anthony Hotel in San Antonio on Friday, September 25th beginning at 4:30 p.m. The first event, at 5:30, is a keynote speech by Richard Smith of Rice University on learning from the Yijing (Book of Changes, followed by welcome reception. The famed San Antonio RiverWalk is a few steps away for your enjoyement during the evening.
On Saturday September 26 the day begins with breakfast and a short plenary session during which we will welcome trustees of the Freeman Foundation. Through the day there will be sixteen panels in four tracks generally labeled as "Ripple Effects of NCTA," "Using Technology to Teach about Asia," "Innovations in Asian Studies," and a miscellaneous category that is strong on teaching with film. A detailed program will be sent to all registrants in early September and a final program will be distributed at the meeting. Trinity University will host a campus reception with mariachis, margaritas, and Tex-Mex food on the campus at the end of the day. Transportation will be provided to and from the reception, and the RiverWalk will still be there for everyone on Saturday night when the formal program is concluded. Full registration information is found on the website at: http://www.trinity.edu/EAST/Meerin's%20pages/east/index.htm . The original registration date is long past but we are glad to welcome registrants and there is hotel space at the conference rate still available. Registration includes the Friday reception and breakfast, lunch, and the reception on Saturday.
