Call for Manuscripts: Teaching the Geographies of Asia. EAA Spring 2011
(Please cross-post to all relevant listservs) Education About Asia (EAA) is the peer-reviewed teaching journal of the Association for Asian Studies. Our readers include undergraduate instructors as well as high school and middle school teachers. Our articles are intended to provide educators, who are often not specialists, with basic understanding of Asia-related content. Qualified referees evaluate all manuscripts submitted for consideration. Although many of our readers teach some form of world history, we have significant numbers of subscribers who are in the social sciences or humanities. We are in the process of developing a special section entitled “Teaching the Geographies of Asia” for the spring 2011 issue of EAA. In this special section, we invite authors to submit manuscripts that address any aspect of the physical and human geography of any country or region in Asia. Manuscripts suitable for use in survey level geography classes are welcome as are manuscripts that integrate geographic content about Asia into history survey courses and other social science disciplines. Prospective authors should be aware that approximately fifty percent of our readers teach at the undergraduate level and the rest are secondary or middle school teachers. We are most interested in manuscripts that are useful for introductory survey-level courses at both the secondary and undergraduate levels. Please consult the EAA guidelines, available on the Web site under my signature, before submitting a manuscript for this special section. Pay particular attention to feature and teaching resources manuscript word-count ranges. Prospective authors are also encouraged to share possible manuscript ideas with me via email. The deadline for initial submission of manuscripts is December 10, 2010. Authors who propose manuscripts that seem especially promising, or that focus upon areas of Asia that are often neglected, may be eligible for an extended deadline of January 5, 2011.
