Perspectives on East Asia for Teachers: Modern China
Weekday afternoons, July 22 - August 20, 2010 University of Washington, Seattle PRE- AND IN-SERVICE EDUCATORS, you are invited to join the UW East Asia Resource Center this summer in Seattle for a 4-week course at the University of Washington that will give you an outstanding grounding in China studies and curricular strategies for bringing China into your classroom. Designed to fuel your interest in China, fill in gaps in your knowledge, and help you enliven your China curriculum, this is a seminar-style course that will provide you with the opportunity to work with Asia specialists and master teachers in a small-group setting. Past participants rated the previous Perspectives course as one of the best professional development experiences of their careers! BENEFITS TO PARTICIPANTS: * Small class size and opportunity to work closely with UW China historian Madeleine Dong, Asian art specialist Melanie King, and curriculum specialist Mary Roberts. * Final project tailored to your needs * $250 course fee includes 60 clock hours or 6 credits * $250 stipend paid to teachers upon completion of the final project * Free course books * Out-of-town participants provided with campus housing (spaces limited!)
