Madge's curriculum recommendation above is a good one. I'd like to highlight two resources that provide invaluable background information and resources teachers will find useful.
The Monterey Institute for International Studies has a Center for Non-Proliferation Studies which has assembled a number of reports, maps, and other resources: http://cns.miis.edu/research/korea/index.htm UCLA convened a major forum on the issue. A full transcript of the comments of security specialists, Korean historians and political scientists, and former diplomats is available at: http://international.ucla.edu/asia/article.asp?parentid=3407 In addition to the transcript are links to other stories, including ones about the roots of anti-Americanism in South Korea and Chinese perspectives on the crisis. Teachers will also appreciate the crisis chronology which includes links to primary source documents, maps, and North Korean posters. Finally, for the latest news on the crisis, this link to Google's current collection of stories may be helpful: Google News Search Best wishes, clay dube |
